Golden Harvest
Partners in Resource Development

The 15th Golden Harvest Award Ceremony took place in October 2006 at the County Center in White Plains and serves as the Partnership’s major fundraiser. Golden Harvest Awards are given annually to corporate and individual supporters to highlight their contributions to seniors and encourage others in the community to follow their civic-minded, public-spirited lead.

In 2006, the Partnership gave the Jim Curran Leadership Award to Joshua F. Greenberg, an attorney, professor and volunteer at Blythedale Children Hospital. The Humanitarian Award was presented to Jane and Donald Cecil, who adopted Mount Vernon elementary school class and helped those who earned their high school diploma to attend college. Hudson Valley Bank, the largest independently owned bank in Westchester, received the Corporate Award, and Daniel Reingold, President and CEO, Hebrew Home for the Aged at Riverdale, was presented with the Distinguished Service Award in honor of the Partnership’s 15th anniversary. A special honor was given to Rita Weingarten, a PPP founding member whose efforts over the years as coordinator of the award luncheon helped to raise more than $3million for seniors. More than 1,000 Westchester seniors were in attendance, including the much-applauded stars of the annual Talent show

Salute to Seniors
Partners in Resource Development

The Partnership’s second largest fundraiser and most populated event, the Salute is a six-hour festive exposition of music, information sessions, senior specific business services, arts and crafts and a unique health fair that not only test one’s current condition but is proactive about maintaining a vital lifestyle.

New to Salute, this year, is the Transportation Department’s “Going Your Way” which featured Bee-Line information sessions on an actual Bee-Line bus. During the travel experience many seniors who had never contemplated taking a bus were taught the basics of boarding, paying the fare, getting a transfer, reading the schedule and knowing where and how to exit the bus. While many of the programs are educational there is lots of room for sheer fun. The Ron Gartner Orchestra provides music that is near and dear to the hearts of all ages.

Salute to Seniors has always been a unique event for the Partnership. Here is where we can see older adults enjoy and partake of all that is special and integral to the quality of life in Westchester County.
